Stanford Pottery of Sebring, Ohio was in operation from the mid-1940s until 1961. They specialized in artware, kitchenware, and novelty ware such as ashtrays and mugs.
The pottery was not reopened after it burned down. The fire was mentioned in a small piece from the Zanesville, Ohio newspaper, The Times Recorder, on January 24, 1961. It read in part:
The pottery, along with the East Ohio Machinery Company and the Sebring Container Corporation, was destroyed in a fire which caused more than a half million dollars damage.
Stanford Art Pottery is owned by William H. Stanford of Alliance and two brothers-in-law, L. L. Root of Salem Route 2 and R. C. Sharer, also of Alliance.
Explosion of a kiln at the rear of the pottery is believed to have started the fire, one of the worst in Sebring's history.
