Mexicali

[DSN:UNK, NS:HUX]

This decal can be found on wares by the Homer Laughlin China Company, Crooksville China, Taylor, Smith & Taylor Co., Mt. Clemens Pottery Co., the Edwin M Knowles China Co., and W. S George. There is no evidence any of these firms actually used the Mexicali decal. It is more likely the pieces were decorated by smaller firms which acquired blanks from the larger potteries. Sometimes a "Vogue Dinnerware 22K Gold" marking can be found on Mexicali pieces, even when no gold was used!

Sharon and Bob Huxford show several examples in their Collector's Encyclopedia of Fiesta books, including a rare set using Harlequin yellow blanks.

Mexicali has been found on the following Laughlin shapes, circa 1940s. There may be others:

  • Century, plain or with maroon verge
  • Theme Eggshell, with gold verge stamp and blue edge
  • Swing Eggshell, with red verge and edge lines
  • Harlequin yellow, without trim
  • Georgian Egghsell, without trim
  • Virginia Rose, plain or with red trim
