Fancy embossed octagon service plates were made at the Homer Laughlin China Company in 1929. They measure almost 11" across and were created under the direction of designer Frederick Rhead. Only five different decorations are known to exist.
All of the examples below are from the collection of The Fiesta® Tableware Company. None have been reported outside the factory so they probably didn't go into production.

This may have been part of a zodiac series. The back is difficult to make out, but it says (from top to bottom), 1929, East Liverpool, Ohio, Ohio River with a depiction of the river with the Newell and Chester bridges, then Newell, W. Va., and finally, Homer Laughlin China Co.
