Once in a while, a piece of Homer Laughlin ware can be found with a Harker Pottery backstamp. This usually occurs with Homer Laughlin plates and platters that were decorated with Harker decals. Such pieces are marked with the general Homer Laughlin backstamp under the glaze with Harker's Bakerite marking over the glaze. In most cases, the Bakerite mark is placed over the Homer Laughlin marking.

Examples with both marks have been found with HLC date codes from the late 1930s to the late 1940s. The HLC-Harker pieces are a bit of a mystery. It is most likely Harker decorated Homer Laughlin blanks since the Bakerite stamp is placed over the HLC marking. Had Homer Laughlin decorated these pieces at their factory for Harker, then they probably would have used unmarked examples.

In any case, at least four Harker decorations have been found: Red Apple, a.k.a. Orchard, Modern Tulip, Petit Point, and Sweetheart Rose. All four of these treatments were used extensively by Harker Pottery.

At the bottom of the page is another HLC-Harker piece, but with the standard Harker dinnerware backstamp.

It is important to note: if a piece is marked with a Bakerite or other Harker stamp, but not with Homer Laughlin's mark, then it was made at Harker Pottery in Chester, West Virginia. Only wares with both stamps can be considered HLC-Harker pieces.
