On Monday, March 23, 1936, J. M. Wells informed art director Frederick Rhead that F. W. Woolworth five and dime stores wanted to add a compartment plate to their Blue Willow line. Wells asked Rhead for a sample to be made. On Friday, March 27th, a Fiesta 12" compartment plate with the Willow design was completed.
While Woolworth's offered both Blue and Pink Willow dinnerware for a number of years, the Fiesta Blue Willow compartment plate never went into production. The sample discussed in Rhead's notes is shown below and is part of The Fiesta® Tableware Company's collection.
