Fiesta® Mugs
Vintage Fiesta® Tom & Jerry Mugs

The Tom & Jerry mug was added to the Fiesta line in the summer of 1936. It was made until the line was restyled in 1969 and in all eleven glazes: red, yellow, light green, blue, old ivory, turquoise, rose, forest green, chartreuse, gray, and medium green. Tom & Jerry mugs were often marked with a backstamp under the glaze.

When the factory started to focus on producing hotel and restaurant ware in 1960, the Fiesta Tom & Jerry mug was picked up when needed for special orders.

In the late 1960s, a generic mug was made for several grocery store premium lines including Sheffield Serenade, Imperial Blue Dresden, Sheffield Amberstone, and Coventry Casualstone. This mug was also used with Fiesta Ironstone and glazed in antique gold, turf green, and mango red. Fiesta Ironstone mugs were never marked.

Fiesta® Classic Ring Handle Mug

The Ring Handle mug was not part of the reintroduction in February 1986, but it was released into production shortly afterwards. The old Tom & Jerry handle was used, but the body was redesigned in a slightly larger form and with a set of rings at the top. Ring Handle mugs are roughly 3 ½" tall, whereas the older Tom & Jerry mugs are 3 ⅛" tall.

Ring Handle mugs are still made today and can be found in all of the standard Fiesta glazes. They weren't supposed to be made in sapphire, but a few rare examples are known to exist.

Fiesta mugs, namely the ring handle and java versions, are often found with decal treatments, many of which are promotional pieces.

Three batches of latte mugs were made without their handles by mistake at the Hall China Co. in East Liverpool, Ohio. After the Hall China plant closed, the handleless latte mugs in poppy, sunflower, and daffodil were brought over to the factory outlet in Newell and sold.

Denver, Tower, and Irish Coffee Mugs

In the mid-1990s, the factory started making some of their commodity (restaurant ware) shapes in Fiesta® glazes. The assortment was originally called Fiesta® Mates, but the name was changed to Colorations.

Three mugs were selected for the Mates/Colorations assortment: the Denver mug, Tower mug, and Irish coffee mug. While these can be considered the main three, there have been other restaurant ware shape mugs made in Fietsa glazes through the years. They either have embossed HLC logos or an underglaze backstamp.

Denver mugs were sometimes carried by retailers instead of the ring handled mug.

Special IHOP Mug

In the mid-1990s, IHOP requested a special mug. They liked the Fiesta® ring handle mug but wanted something with a larger handle. The solution was to take the ring handle body and attach a handle from an existing shape. The Shakespeare mug handle was selected.

The mugs were glazed in periwinkle and a blue IHOP decal was applied. Undecorated blanks were sold at the factory outlet.

While the IHOP hybrid may look like a Java mug, it is not. In fact, they predate the larger Java mugs by almost ten years.

Other Mugs

A set of mugs was made along with a Rolled Edge plates in white, turquoise, and rose and decorated with Looney Tunes decals for Warner Bros' stores. The "300 mug" shape was used for the special set.

River and Shakespeare mugs were part of Homer Laughlin's restaurant ware line. They can be found in several Fiesta® glazes.

The rose ring handle mug was treated with a special process which disolves the glaze and leaves behind a pattern.
